Even better is when I did a search for the Pres. Polk biography interview with John Seigenthaler - it also lists links to interviews of other interviews that have the word "Polk" in the transcript. So it links to books about Winfield Scott - Pres. Buchanon, Henry Clay and Franklin Pierce too. A rich resource and treasureful window into history.
Seignethaler read James K. Polk's diaries - first the edited version and then the four volumes - he found them so compelling that he accepted the assignment to write a short biography that this interview discusses. Fascinating to listen to - hard to listen to and not want to hear and read more.
Incredible!!!!

I'm a born-again Polk-hater.
You have seen this most beautiful website?
Check out the debate records starting Jan 11, 1848 (in the House). Lincoln talks on the 12th.
But I love this quote, about Polk and his friends...
"Let them sport their pleasure boats on the rivers of tears of widows and orphans."
