Candlepin Bowling - Are you nuts?

I want to try candlepin bowling. Tenpin big ball bowling hurts my fingers, Duckpin bowling has a ball that is a bit too large. Candlepins smaller ball is just right I think. I am in Northern NJ and the closest Candlepin lanes are in Agawam Mass near Springfield.
